So what can I do to help Mareena?

Mareena and her family would like to thank all of you who came and supported us at the Board Meeting on Tuesday, June 9th 2015.  We are overwhelmed with emotion and can't stress how thankful we are for each and every one of you.  We had a strong presence at both sessions, and many people (including the local papers) have been reaching out to us since.

Our presence that day was just the begining and we will continue to move forward until the Los Alamitos School District provides Mareena with the Fair and Appropriate Public Education (F.A.P.E) she has a right to.  We may be attending the next meeting and if so, we will let you know ASAP, please check back on this website for updates or click on the update button on the bottom of this page.

We would like to send a message to the district and its educational board members, that the tax payers of this community will not tolerate misuse of taxpayer funds.  They need to understand that this community wants its elected officals to use money on services rather than on attorneys.  The bigger the groups and support, the louder the message.  We would like our following meetings to be bigger and bigger and appreciate your support in spreading the word.  If you know anyone that is also having to fight for appropriate services please tell them about this website.  Change only happens when we stand united.

Many of you have asked "what can we do to help"?

Showing up to the meetings is of most importance.  Next you can call or write a letter to the board.  It can be short and sweet or long and extensive, whatever you prefer. Tell them how you feel about how this distrcit is treating Mareena and her family.  Let them know that this issue is not going to just go away.  Let them know they shouldn't be spending your tax dollars on hiring attorneys to fight against families with children with special education needs.  Explain that all kids deserve a chance.  The district's motto is "Ignite Unlimited Possibilities" - they need to stand by that!

It is appalling that parents have to legally fight to get the appropriate services their child needs to succeed in our community.
